Happy National Coffee Day!  I’m on a blog hop for Trinity Stamps and we are part of a larger event through Coffee Loving Card Makers. Did you get your coffee yet today? Starbucks has some cute new gift cards.  Besides loving coffee, a few of my friends and I actually collect Starbucks gift cards.  These acorns are soooo adorable!

I wanted to make an interactive coffee card for National Coffee Day that I’m going to send to a friend. I opted to make a card that can hold a gift card to Starbucks, so that she can treat herself to a coffee one day. Here is a video showing the entire process, however I outline all the steps below with photos.

I die cut 3 coffee mugs (Darice die, soon to appear in the Trinity Stamp shop) from rustic white cardstock, cut an oval shape out of pale blue cardstock & made an A2 card base out of turquoise cardstock.  Please use what ever you have on hand!  I also fussy cut a stamped, copic colored succulent bunch from the Trinity Stamp set “Let Love Grow” also out of rustic white cardstock, as I had done previously in a previous Youtube video. I’m still really new to YouTube, so I tend to keep my videos on the short side.  This blog post & video will focus on the making of the interactive cards & less so on the coloring of the succulents.

This card requires smaller Starbucks gift cards like the acorn, as the regular sized gift cards will not work (the bottom of the mug becomes too narrow).  Cover one mug with gold washi tape and cut the top portion of the mug as shown below. Then cut one of the plain white coffee mugs down to size as shown in photo below (now called the “mug insert”), and cut an oval (following guidelines of the die cut) in top of the other coffee mug and the gold washi covered piece.

Once you have finished this step, you should have the following (as shown in the photo below)

Now adhere the Starbucks gift card and the colored bouquet of succulents to the smaller trimmed mug insert.  Adhere the gold mug piece to the mug with the oval cut out with some glue.  Do any stamping on the front of the complete mug now- I used Trinity Stamps’ “Caffeinated Sentiments” and “Coffee with Character” stamp set to stamp a mini coffee mug and “This one’s on me”.

Now place the “mug insert” into the mug (with the oval cut out on the top) until the gift card is hidden, turn the “mug insert” over and then apply foam pieces all along the outer portion around the mug insert, but avoid having the foam pieces touching the insert, otherwise the insert will not slide in and out of the mug.  Now adhere the mug/mug insert to the oval frame.  As a final touch, I stamped coffee beans & the steam swirl from the “Coffee with Character” set as a tone on tone with the base card.

December Daily

Prepping for December Daily 2018

I usually decide at the beginning of October what products I’m going to buy to use in my December Daily.  For anyone not familiar with December Daily, this is a tradition in the scrapbooking community of documenting each day in December leading up to Christmas in a scrapbook album, traveler’s notebook or any kind of journal.  This is hands down my favorite project of the year and I’ve enjoyed documenting our days leading up to Christmas!

This year I’ve decided to largely use the Merry Days Collection from Crate Paper.  Its comforting color palette and illustrations remind me simultaneously of vintage Christmas images (which I collect on Pinterest) and my favorite stationery brand- Rifle Paper.  I’ve made a video of the collection for those that are still waiting to receive their orders so that the color palette and contents can be readily seen.

Do you like the Merry Days Collection?  I’d love to hear your thoughts!  Thanks for stopping by!

Coffee Spread in Traveler’s Notebooks

Midori-CBK

Today I created a 2 page spread in a standard sized (4.25″ by 8.25″) insert that fits in a Standard Midori. I used the Trinity Stamps “Coffee with Character” stamp set to create a backdrop for a photo of my beloved coffee mug and a couple of cute characters on the opposite page. The video is available on YouTube– thanks for stopping by!

Monochromatic Coffee

I have been meaning to enter a challenge at A Blog Named Hero, I have so many Hero Arts Stamps & dies, and should be using them!  I have purchased a number of My Monthly Hero kits and one of my favorite is the recent August 2018 kit. This kit is all about coffee and it was an absolute no-brainer for me to buy it.

I decided to enter the Monochromatic challenge using all shades of brown to make a coffee card. Two beautiful papers were included in the kit, so I decided to use them as the background for my card.  Included in the kit was embossing powder that puffs & expands once you heat it! It looks so much like foam!

One final touch was using some adhesive cork that I had in my stash.  I punched out a few hearts from the cork and die cut a border out of the cork sheet.  I have never used cork on a card before, but I plan to do it again soon- it adds quite some texture & dimension!

My Favorite Things

Early Christmas Card

I wanted to enter another card into My Favorite Things Superstar card challenges.  I’ve had some My Favorite Things stamps that I have wanted to use, so this was the perfect excuse!Print

I didn’t start out making a Christmas card, I wanted to make a birthday card.  I went through several iterations of a birthday card using MFT Bitty Bears, but didn’t like any of them.  So I picked up another stamp set and started fresh.  I love the Dashing Deer stamp set and really wanted to do watercolor, so here is the end result:

I actually watercolored with Tim Holtz distress inks and a sparkle pen, rather than a waterbrush.  Finally I added some Nuvo drops & MFT gold cardstock and voila- a card!  Thank you for stopping by!

My Favorite Things Shaker Card

Enlight19

I have loved these Bitty Bears from My Favorite Things the moment I saw them!  They are chubby and CUTE- I just want to squeeze them (in a hug sort of way).  I decided to make a shaker card with supplies (shaker that I had recently bought from My Favorite Things.  I only used items from the My Favorite Things store, except for the black ink, Copic markers, Tim Holtz Oxide Inks (background for the snow globe), various cardstocks, and sequins.

Autumn Suprise

The new Lawn Fawnatics challenge is all about autumn.  I decided to make another reveal wheel with an added surprise- a hidden critter!  Have I made too many reveal wheel cards- maybe.  But I definitely enjoy them and hope that the recipient does as well!

Trinity Stamps

New YouTube Channel!

Hi everyone!  I’m now jumping into YouTube land and will be making videos for Trinity Stamps.  Today I uploaded my first one: Simple One-Layer Cards based on this card that I showed on Instagram a few days ago:

CBK-succulent banner.jpg

It’s made with the Succulent Banner stamp & die set from Trinity Stamps, copic colored, added sparkle and then mounted on woodgrain cardstock.  I would love it if you would stop by!  Have a great day!

I love the coffee images (and donuts) in the Trinity Stamps Coffee with Character Stamp set.   I don’t have the corresponding dies, so I cut everything out with my Brother ScanNCut2.  Some simple copic coloring and adorable sprinkles (also available at Trinity Stamps) round out the card.
