Happy National Coffee Day!  I’m on a blog hop for Trinity Stamps and we are part of a larger event through Coffee Loving Card Makers. Did you get your coffee yet today? Starbucks has some cute new gift cards.  Besides loving coffee, a few of my friends and I actually collect Starbucks gift cards.  These acorns are soooo adorable!

I wanted to make an interactive coffee card for National Coffee Day that I’m going to send to a friend. I opted to make a card that can hold a gift card to Starbucks, so that she can treat herself to a coffee one day. Here is a video showing the entire process, however I outline all the steps below with photos.

I die cut 3 coffee mugs (Darice die, soon to appear in the Trinity Stamp shop) from rustic white cardstock, cut an oval shape out of pale blue cardstock & made an A2 card base out of turquoise cardstock.  Please use what ever you have on hand!  I also fussy cut a stamped, copic colored succulent bunch from the Trinity Stamp set “Let Love Grow” also out of rustic white cardstock, as I had done previously in a previous Youtube video. I’m still really new to YouTube, so I tend to keep my videos on the short side.  This blog post & video will focus on the making of the interactive cards & less so on the coloring of the succulents.

This card requires smaller Starbucks gift cards like the acorn, as the regular sized gift cards will not work (the bottom of the mug becomes too narrow).  Cover one mug with gold washi tape and cut the top portion of the mug as shown below. Then cut one of the plain white coffee mugs down to size as shown in photo below (now called the “mug insert”), and cut an oval (following guidelines of the die cut) in top of the other coffee mug and the gold washi covered piece.

Once you have finished this step, you should have the following (as shown in the photo below)

Now adhere the Starbucks gift card and the colored bouquet of succulents to the smaller trimmed mug insert.  Adhere the gold mug piece to the mug with the oval cut out with some glue.  Do any stamping on the front of the complete mug now- I used Trinity Stamps’ “Caffeinated Sentiments” and “Coffee with Character” stamp set to stamp a mini coffee mug and “This one’s on me”.

Now place the “mug insert” into the mug (with the oval cut out on the top) until the gift card is hidden, turn the “mug insert” over and then apply foam pieces all along the outer portion around the mug insert, but avoid having the foam pieces touching the insert, otherwise the insert will not slide in and out of the mug.  Now adhere the mug/mug insert to the oval frame.  As a final touch, I stamped coffee beans & the steam swirl from the “Coffee with Character” set as a tone on tone with the base card.
