Meet Me in the Middle For Coffee Card

Hello there! Today I have a large slimline interactive card that uses My Favorite Things products. I’m using the Meet in the Middle dienamics paired with the Cafe All Day dienamics, and the Friends at First Sip stamp & die sets.

First I die cut 2 scalloped slimline panels out of lilac and purple cardstock with the Trinity Stamps Slimline Series: Scalloped Card Panels die set and one panel out of white cardstock with the Slimline Series: Stitched Card Panels & Windows. I also die cut all the pieces of Meet in the Middle dienamics and 2 sets of the Cafe All Day dienamics. My Favorite Things has a perfect video on the product page showing how to assemble the interactive component; below is a photo of the set up.

Next I stamped and die cut the images from the Friends at First Sip stamp & die sets. I copic colored all the images in a with a purple color palette. I then adhered everything, added a few sequins, a sentiment and made sure the mechanism worked.

Boba Slimline Shaker Twist & Turn Card

CBKMay8-1

Welcome to today’s post in which I used the new Mama Elephant Boba Tea stamp & die and the Boba Shaker Combo die.  I had a crazy vision to make shaker boba teas that also moved on the card.  Using the My Favorite Things Twist and Turn Interactive die set and Rachel Alverado’s tutorial here, I made a double twist and turn shaker slimline card.

First I ink blended distress oxide ink in spun sugar, tattered rose and antique linen on a slimline card base that had been cut with Trinity Stamps Slimline Card Series Scalloped Card Panel die set.  I cut another panel from vellum to give the front of the panel a softer feel.

To keep this post brief, I’ll say that I used Rachel’s tutorial to set up the inside of the card as shown in the photo below.  I doubled up on all the die cuts to make sure everything was sturdy, so I die cut the entire mechanism 4 times out of Neenah 110 lb solar white cardstock.  I also created an extra long pull tab to accommodate the slimline size.  It is important to set up the entire mechanism before adding any foam tape to the panel- you want to see where the pieces move so that the foam tape doesn’t impede the mechanism in any way.  You have to use a double layer of foam tape to accommodate the entire mechanism.

Next I stamped, die cut and copic colored the images from the Mama Elephant Boba Tea stamp & die.  For the shakers I die cut each tea shaker image 6 times (24 total), 1 acetate cover (4 total) and 1 complete tea cup outline (4 total) which I glued together with connect glue, the top most layer I colored with copics (R20, R00, Y21 and YR21) because I didn’t have the appropriate color cardstock.  To make it extra glittery, I put some Glitter Kiss glitter paste in Frosty Sparkle Kiss over the colored shaker pieces.  Once each shaker component was put together, I adhered it to the underlying mechanism with a strong adhesive foam dot.

I adhered the entire slimline panel to a card base of 8.5 inches by 3.5 inches.  When you pull the tab the cups move!

Sunrise-inspired Valentine’s Day card

Blog Feb3Two recent photos served as the inspiration for today’s card. My friend Alexia is a runner and gets up at the crack of dawn to run and photograph the sunrise.  Her photos are amazing!

Her photos and a recent sneak peek of a card that Carly Tee Minner made helped me decide to make a sunrise with soft colors and turn a snowy sentiment into a Valentine’s Card.

I have often had trouble picking a palette of colors to use for a card, but it was easy this time.  Trying to mimic a sunrise’s colors of pinks and oranges, I chose several Distress Oxide inks: dried marigold, picked raspberry, spun sugar and worn lipstick.  The Trinity Stamps blendability brushes truly make blending easy and fun.  I have shied away from making backgrounds such as the one used to make this card because of the difficulty in getting an even transition in coloring.  I would never be able to make the perfect background in one try; invariably the color would be too heavy in one area where I wanted lighter coverage and vice versa.  It is easy to fix lighter coverage by simply adding more color, but not so for heavy coverage.  The blendability brushes give the control back to the user without having to first wipe off a lot of color.

I used a cloud stencil from My Favorite Things (products used are below) to create the dreamy clouds using the distress oxide inks on a 4.25 by 5.5 inch cardstock panel.  I used Picked Raspberry & marigold at the top of the card, transitioned to worn lipstick & marigold in the middle and then spun sugar & marigold toward the bottom of the panel.  I never wiped the brush in between any of these transitions, which I think helped create a gradient of continuous and gradually lighter color.

I decided that to use the Trinity Stamp stamp set “If kisses were snowflakes, I’d send you a blizzard” in puff white embossing powder to tie it into the cloud scene and I love the result.  First apply a powder tool to lightly coat the panel and then use versamark ink to stamp the sentiment.  Apply the white puff embossing powder and shake off the excess before heat setting with a heat gun.

The card needed some final small embellishments, so I used a die from a recent Ellen Hutson release- “Confetti Kisses & Tic Tac Toe” by one of my favorite designers Julie Ebersole.  I wanted the hearts to really pop, so I used the two darkest distress oxides (picked raspberry & worn lipstick) and apply these heavily to cardstock prior die cutting. The die cut hearts combined with the sweet & tart candy hearts from Trinity Stamps really pull the card together don’t you think?

Early Christmas Card

I wanted to enter another card into My Favorite Things Superstar card challenges.  I’ve had some My Favorite Things stamps that I have wanted to use, so this was the perfect excuse!Print

I didn’t start out making a Christmas card, I wanted to make a birthday card.  I went through several iterations of a birthday card using MFT Bitty Bears, but didn’t like any of them.  So I picked up another stamp set and started fresh.  I love the Dashing Deer stamp set and really wanted to do watercolor, so here is the end result:

I actually watercolored with Tim Holtz distress inks and a sparkle pen, rather than a waterbrush.  Finally I added some Nuvo drops & MFT gold cardstock and voila- a card!  Thank you for stopping by!

My Favorite Things Shaker Card

Enlight19

I have loved these Bitty Bears from My Favorite Things the moment I saw them!  They are chubby and CUTE- I just want to squeeze them (in a hug sort of way).  I decided to make a shaker card with supplies (shaker that I had recently bought from My Favorite Things.  I only used items from the My Favorite Things store, except for the black ink, Copic markers, Tim Holtz Oxide Inks (background for the snow globe), various cardstocks, and sequins.
